Creative Writing—Photography—Art

Are you interested in publishing your creative writing, visual, or physical art? If so, then consider submitting your work to Flight, Mt. San Jacinto College’s anthology of student creative writing and visual art. Flight will be published in May 2023, and Flight is seeking student submissions of poetry, prose fiction, creative non-fiction, artwork, and photography. We also accept photographs of physical art such as sculpture, woodwork, and pottery.

Theme: This year’s theme is Unity. We are interested in various interpretations and contexts related to unity. The connection to the theme can be subtle, but it must be present.

Guidelines:

Poetry:

  • Two or three poems may be submitted.
  • Maximum length 20 lines per poem.
  • We are looking for strong voices with careful attention to language.

Prose fiction (short stories) and creative non-fiction (essays):

  • One piece per genre (fiction and/or nonfiction).
  • Maximum length 5000 words per piece. We are interested in various voices, strong narration, and clean work, free of grammatical and mechanical issues.
  • All written work should be typed. Please keep the presentation simple and clean—no ornate/exotic fonts, no background visuals.
  • Written pieces must be submitted as a .doc, .docx, or PDF. Google docs will NOT be accepted.

Visual art (paintings, drawings, photography, photos of physical art):

  • Submit two or three pieces.
  • All Art mediums allowed (examples include: Pen, pencil, markers, paints, oils, charcoal, watercolors, canvas, and paper, digital).
  • Any color value allowed (black and white allowed).
  • We are accepted photographed representations of physical works, such as ceramics or sculptures, but these must be photographed against a black background.
  • Any digital submissions should be sent in as JPG, and preferably 300 DPI resolution, 2550 X 3300 size in pixels or 8.5 x 11in to ensure high quality.

All work should be submitted electronically, included as an attachment to an e-mail. The deadline for submissions is April 7th 2023.  Please send your electronic submissions to [email protected] along with your name, e-mail address, and a phone number.
