Mt. San Jacinto College offers students the endless opportunity to conceptualize, manufacture, and instantiate objects in the MakerSpace. The  MSJC Menifee Valley campus MakerSpace is located inside the library building, underneath the stairs to the right before you enter the learning resource center.

The services offered in the MakerSpace here at the Menifee Valley campus are 3D printing, vinyl cutting, button making, Design software, laser etching & cutting, vacuum forming, origami, and free-form art. The San Jacinto campus MakerSpace offers Animatronics, CNC, and embroidery & sewing.

The funding for the MakerSpace is provided by the Strong Workforce Funding program, a state initiative designed to develop more workforce opportunities and lift low-wage workers into living-wage jobs through career education. All materials are provided to students free of  cost, and helpful staff available for guidance.

Take a look inside

Nestled inside the Menifee Valley campus is a place where experimentation, innovation, and creativity come together. The  MakerSpace is quickly becoming a hub for students to turn their ideas into tangible projects, whether for class projects, personal interests, or entrepreneurial ventures.

When students walk into the MakerSpace, the atmosphere feels magical, like walking into Willy Wonka’s factory, but for creators.  Instead of candy and giant gold eggs, you are surrounded by  technology, tools, and materials to allow students to design,  build, and implement their ideas.

The MakerSpace offers students the freedom to try new things and develop skills that help them outside of the classroom. Like any expanding program, it also faces challenges.

According to Dr. Hal, who is the head honcho in the MakerSpace  at the Menifee Valley campus, one of the biggest obstacles is  scheduling.” The greatest challenge is coordinating times for  students to use the space.”

Another challenge that Dr. Hal shared about the MakerSpace is the lack of a budget for advertising, meaning students only hear about the MakerSpace through word of mouth from other students, faculty, and staff.

“The MakerSpace provides a safe space for students to fail,” Dr.  Hal said. “Failure is part of the learning process, and this space  allows students to experiment, make mistakes, and improve.”

By encouraging creativity and hands-on learning, the MakerSpace is helping students develop problem-solving skills and confidence that can carry into their future careers. Even with scheduling challenges and limited promotion, the space continues to inspire students to create, innovate, and learn from every attempt.
