Living in Southern California is exciting, with major counties like San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles all within hours of each other. However, it’s not uncommon for students’ excitement and aspirations to go beyond their wallets. It’s all so close and so unattainable, until now.
In June 2024, Metrolink renewed its Student Adventure Pass, allowing students to ride the passenger rail completely free. Students in K-12 and advanced education (including trade schools and any type of college) can freely travel around Southern California when registered for this pass.
With its 545 miles of track passing through North San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, Los Angeles, and Ventura County, the scholarly and recreational opportunities are endless. It’s also an extremely eco-friendly way to travel.
One user of the Student Adventure Pass expressed their appreciation for it by saying, “Having a Student Adventure Pass has enabled me to see my grandmother more frequently, explore parts of LA that were otherwise too far, and expand my professional network.”
The pass was introduced in June of 2023, and since then, 671 schools across Southern California have taken advantage of this new feature. Of these 671 schools, 41,640 students have used this pass. Here at Mt. San Jacinto College, 113 accounts (and counting) have been activated.
With 67 stations located across the extensive track, it makes going to places like San Clemente, Riverside, and Anaheim accessible. With each station being so close, it saves money and time and is carbon efficient.
SAP also offers free transfers to other public transportation systems. This includes Riverside’s RTA (Riverside Transit Agency), Orange County’s OCTA (Orange County Transportation Authority), and others across Southern California.
A happy SAP user said, “Taking the train has made visiting loved ones more accessible. I recently got my driver’s license, but can’t drive long distances on my own. The train is the best solution for me.”
Metrolink makes places like the San Clemente pier, Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, Griffith Park, and the Angels Stadium all possible.
