As fall comes around the corner, more and more people are starting to participate in indoor activities. With many games to choose from, it’s easy for the average person to get overwhelmed when deciding what to play. Stardew Valley was created by ConcernedApe (Eric Barone) in 2016. Today, it has been translated into 13 languages and is available on Android, iOS, PC, etc. It has also received many great reviews and is currently rated 4.6/5.0 on the Google Play Store. The game has been nominated for numerous awards and has currently won two in total: One from the Golden Joystick Awards and another from The Steam Awards.
Stardew Valley is the perfect game to play inside as the seasons change. With a casual gameplay style, it’s the perfect choice for players hoping to relax and kill some time. The game’s main objective is for the player to create their own farm according to their wishes. Players can choose what they grow, and how they decorate, and they can choose how to earn money to upgrade their farm. As of 2024, there are eight available maps on which to start your farm, and the game allows players to have multiple save files, allowing the user to experience each option without having to delete their progress.
The game also features celebrations for every season in the game. Of all of them, the Egg Festival is my favorite. The Egg Festival is your average Easter Egg hunt, with the only difference being that you’re competing with in-game characters instead of your family and friends. If you win, you’ll receive a prize. If not, no worries, because there are no consequences for losing. The Egg Festival also allows you to purchase special decor for your farm that can only be obtained during that event. If you want to purchase it all, make sure to save up, because it can be pretty expensive if your save file is new.
Another fan favorite is the Stardew Valley Fair, which occurs in the fall. The festival allows people to play various minigames and win currency(Star Tokens), which can be exchanged for furniture at the event shop. In addition to carnival games, this holiday is a chance to showcase your farm’s progress at the annual Grange Display. For the competition, the player is required to bring up to 9 items, and if they win 1st place, they will receive 1,000 Star Tokens. If you want to win the contest, I recommend bringing purple-star items or precious gems that can be found in the mines. If not purple-star items, then gold-star items will suffice.
Stardew Valley is a great choice to play while inside if you’re looking for a new video game. Its casual gameplay allows for players to relax and makes it a great time killer for when you’re bored. As far as indie games go, it’s one of the best on the market, and is an impressive work of art, considering only one person created it.
