Do you have a vivid imagination? Love to be creative with a pen, but never had an outlet to express it? Are an avid lyricist, but have always wanted meaningful feedback? The MSJC Creative Writing Club is a student-run club that emphasizes creativity whether it be with words, instruments, or even the canvas. In the club’s discord, people can share their work, book recommendations, jokes, memes, other media, and even things outside of the realm of writing such as art and music videos.
Some of the benefits include constructive criticism, a welcoming environment that looks to build you up, and a friendly community of fellow creators. The in-person meetings are held on the first and third of every Monday each month (though this may vary) from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm at the Temecula Valley Campus in Room 411. The Discord meetings take place every first and third Friday of each month (though this might vary as well) from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Long-time members of the club have great things to say about their experiences:

“Being in the CWC helped me to find people who not only share my passion for writing, but also my ideals. We are creating a supportive environment where writers or storytellers of any kind can learn, practice, and share their work with fellow artists. I’ve learned a lot from being in this club – about writing, of course, but also about myself and my fellow club members,” says Evynne, the Vice President of the Creative Writing Club. “I’m very proud to play my part in building that.”
The club also hosts open mic nights where people can share stories, poetry, and songs, and they even do stand-up comedy. However, the club is better known for the infamous Karaoke Night where people sing popular songs and perform some of their own. Not a singer? No problem, come on down and listen to others.
“Before I became Co-President, I considered quitting the Creative Writing Club. I was very shy at the time, and since I was too nervous to talk to anyone, I thought that I was wasting my time. Right before I quit I decided to give the open mic night one last try, where I met Robert, AKA Muffin. He recognized me from the club meetings and introduced himself. This was my first form of social interaction in a while, so I was excited. We made small talk for a decent amount of the open mic night, which was enough to stop me from quitting. It made me believe that I could move past my shyness and be something more. Eventually, I’d go on to become good friends with the members of the club, I’d go to events, and hang out outside of the club. I got to enjoy experiences I feared I’d never get to experience and become a part of a community of amazing writers because of a fellow club member’s kindness towards me. To any writers looking for a welcoming community, please join us. You won’t regret it.” – Anthony, CWC Co-President.
No matter if you are a writer, artist, or singer, the Creative Writing Club is a welcoming place that is open to all. If you are interested, you can join the club’s discord. If you have any questions, you can join through the link and reach out to the club advisors for more information.
