Broken Down Shoes

Alexis Calain, Guest Poet

My life is like a pair of broken-down shoes
Taking on more than its sole can handle
For it seems my time has been out walked.
The laces that hold me all together have unraveled
Beginning to tear at the seams
And squeak for just a day off from the pounding.
The dirty puddles from the outside have left stains
Working their way in thread by thread
Making sure no patchwork can cover what remains.
Though at time I wish to just be thrown away
My heels grind on, hoping one day
It will all be woven back together.
