MSJC Football Wins Against Moorpark
September 22, 2022
On a sunny day in San Jacinto, the MSJC Eagles Football team looked to extend their winning streak to two games against the Moorpark Raiders. The Eagles took an early 8-point lead with a Taliq Brown touchdown. Moorpark then came back with a touchdown of their own, but failed to get the two-point conversion to make an eight to six score at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles took control of the second quarter with a 17-0 run. A field goal from 25 yards by Nathaniel Peterson made it 11-6. Carsten Mamaril, a special teams player, then blocked a Moorpark field goal, recovered the ball, and returned it for a 70-yard scoop-and-score touchdown to extend their lead to 18-6. Jaylen Magee then tacked on an 11-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 25-6. Then, the Raiders closed the gap to make it a 25-16, and came back with a two-play, 72-yard drive and ended with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Coleman to Brown. This gave the Eagles a 32-16 lead at the half.
Working with a 32-16 score at the start of the 3rd quarter, the Eagles began on defense vs. the Raiders offense who were looking to lower the deficit and to put the Raiders back into the game. On the opening drive of the second half, the Eagles surrendered a touchdown to the Raiders, cutting the lead to 32-23; however, that would be short lived as the Eagles then just took over the game. The Eagles offense scored a touchdown on their first drive of the 2nd half with quarterback (QB), Robert Coleman, #5, completing a 12-yard pass to tight end (TE), David Vandenburg, #89, to make it 39-23. Back on defense, the Eagles kept the Raiders out of the end zone and forced them to kick a field goal that was missed, keeping the score at 39-23. On the Eagles drive, QB Robert Coleman connected to wide receiver (WR),Taylor Tosches, for a 50 yard touchdown, which gave the Eagles a 46-23 lead. On the next Raiders drive, defensive back Naisir Morrow got a huge interception at the end zone, keeping the Raiders out of the end zone again and keeping the score 46-23. The Eagles offense on the next drive focused on the run game and handed the football to running back (RB), Jaylen Magee who then found his way to the end zone, making the score 53-23. After the Eagles scored 21 unanswered points, the Raiders finally answered with a touchdown at 53-30. The Eagles got one last touchdown from running back Matthew Caldera, who ran 36 yards to the end zone, which made the score 60-30. The Eagles won the game at 60-30 and outscored the Raiders 28-14 in the 2nd half. There are some things that need to be cleaned up, but all in all it was a good team win. The QB-WR duo of Robert Coleman and Taliq Brown continue to shine and will play next week in Santa Ana.
