3rd place tie with:
“Séance” by Ricardo Marquez
Rotten eggs, nail clippings, and strands of hair from bed.
Colored candles in a circle lit as the sun descends.
A cracking iron cauldron rusted by time, waiting to be fed.
A virgin servant feverishly eager to summon up the dead.
A virgin servant eagerly patient, waiting to be led.
Twisted black stars marked by coal,
Imprints evil and curses the home.
And as the cauldron boils and the sun retreats,
A beast emerges from the darkest corner,
and the sharpest teeth.
Hungry for hope and thirsty for blood
The beast roams, feasting on children, one by one.
Rotten eggs, nail clippings, and strands of hair from bed.
Colored candles in a circle lit as the sun descends.
Summons evil from the world, the world of the dead
And releases the Halloween beast to hunt once again.
