On Thursday, March 26th 2026, the Mount San Jacinto College MakerSpace Club students hosted the second-ever Maker Fair to showcase the crafts and skills available at the MSJC MakerSpace. During this event, students set up booths to display their arts and creations to the students of the Menifee Campus. The goal of the event was to give creative students a platform to share their small businesses and to inform students about the resources available through the MakerSpace. There was a large turnout for the Maker Fair and the Costume Contest that followed, and many new people learned about the MakerSpace.

According to a survey conducted by Joaquin Cardenas on MakerSpace awareness, when asked whether they had ever heard of the MSJC MakerSpace, 61.9% had not, even though 66.7% of those surveyed attended campuses with MakerSpaces. The data also found that 71.4% of polled students did not know where either the Menifee or San Jacinto Makerspace was located. The poll also found that students enjoyed a range of creative activities, including painting, laser engraving, button-making, crochet, sewing, and sticker printing. These activities are all offered at the MakerSpace, including hands-on training and guidance from professionals with years of experience. From this data, it’s clear that there was a need to inform the student population about the benefits of the MakerSpace.

The various participants of the event had goals coming into it. One of the main organizers for the event, Amoni Walker, said the following: “Our goal with the maker fair was to promote student businesses and give them an opportunity and platform to promote their work. A second goal was to promote the Makerspace as a space with free resources for all students, usable for absolutely anything. For school, home, or personal use, we have a group of students there that love to collaborate on ideas and help those who have questions.” Joseph Jahshan, another main organizer of the event, said, “Our goal was to promote the Makerspace and our personal businesses. We showed off what we could make in the Makerspace while also promoting ourselves.” One of these small business owners, Kadence, said, “It’s always been a dream to sell handmade products and art, and this event was the perfect way to market my new products.”
The MakerSpace Club is a student-run organization based out of MSJC that focuses entirely on the MakerSpace and MakerSpace awareness. The MakerSpace club is based at the Menifee Campus with connections to the San Jacinto Campus.
