MSJC pledges equality for students

Photo provided by MSJC

On May 31, 2020, Dr. Roger Schultz, President and Superintendent of Mt. San Jacinto College, issued a message in response to the protests resulting from the killing of George Floyd, a black man from Minnesota who was killed by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

Dr. Schultz expresses his “deep sorrow and anguish” for the situation and has worked with MSJC to release the Equity Pledge, an initiative that supports equality among all races and genders and is committed to the success of MSJC students. MSJC is one of the first community colleges to enact an anti-racist pledge such as this and encourages MSJC faculty, staff, students, alumni, and family to stand with them in support.

The Equity Pledge includes the history of discriminatory laws in the U.S. as well as the student equity milestones MSJC has achieved over the years. The school continues to support their students in any crisis that occurs.

“Let 2020 be the time we finally break the cycle of racism and be a part of true positive and lasting social change.” – Dr. Roger Schultz
