SAN JACINTO, Calif. — On a demanding afternoon, The Country Club at Soboba Springs, which stretches more than 7,000 yards and carries a 135 slope rating, gave golfers from across the conference a stern test of precision and patience.
At the top of the leaderboard, Sinjin Armstrong of College of the Desert delivered the round of the day, shooting a 3-under 69 to capture medalist honors. Armstrong’s performance was the only score under 70 in the field.
Brady Fonville of Victor Valley College finished second at 2-under 70, while Braxton McDonald of College of the Desert placed among the leaders at 1-under 71, tied with Brady McColm of Victor Valley and Jack Wasserman of Riverside City College as the only other golfers to finish under par.
The strong individual performance by Armstrong helped College of the Desert secure the team title at even par, edging Victor Valley College, which finished at 2-over.
Cuyamaca College placed third at 17-over, while Mount San Jacinto College finished fourth at 24-over, a result that MSJC Head Coach Ron Bingham said reflected the team’s potential.
Rounding out the standings were Riverside City College (+26), Cypress College (+28), and a tie for seventh between Mount San Antonio College and Orange Coast College, both at +30.
For Mount San Jacinto College, the highlight of the day came from Shane Agundez, who posted the Eagles’ top score and finished tied for 11th overall at 3-over 75.

Agundez said the round represented one of his most complete performances of the season.
“It was definitely a lot better than I’ve been playing,” Agundez said. “I made a lot of putts today. My driver was really good, and I just stayed confident and didn’t let myself get in my own head.”
One of the defining moments of his round came at the par-3 eighth, where Agundez recorded a birdie that helped spark his momentum.
“I definitely think so,” he said. “That really turned my round around. I went one over from that point on, and I stayed confident and stayed with what I know I’m capable of doing.”
Agundez said a strong start to the back nine helped maintain his rhythm throughout the closing stretch.
“I knew if I hit a good tee shot on 10, then I would be pretty set,” he said. “From there on, it just felt like clockwork — the same good swing over and over. I just felt super confident.”
The result marked the best finish among MSJC players, something Agundez sees as part of a larger journey.
“My goal is to go either Division I or Division II,” he said. “If I keep it up, that’s strong for me. But most importantly, I’m worried about our team and trying to get top three in the league.”
Other MSJC Performances
Behind Agundez, several Eagles contributed solid rounds to help MSJC finish fourth in the team standings.
- Mac Brigham finished 18th at 6-over 78
- Jacob Aylward placed 26th at 7-over 79
- Anthony Saavedra finished 29th at 8-over 80
- Akoni Johnson placed 44th at 14-over 86
- Ethan Delahoya did not finish the round
Coach Bingham Encouraged by Progress
Despite the fourth-place finish, Coach Bingham said the performance marked an important turning point for the Eagles this season.
“So far our season has been underachieving,” Bingham said. “This is the first time my team has really played up to their potential. For me, this was a great day.”
Agundez shared that excitement about the team’s direction moving forward.
“I’m so excited for us,” he said. “We’ve worked so hard and gone through a lot of struggles, but we turned it around today. I’m super happy for us.”
With conference play continuing, MSJC will look to build on its momentum from Soboba Springs as the Eagles pursue a higher finish in the league standings in the weeks ahead.
