We have now reached a new stage of the COVID-19 Pandemic and theaters have begun to reopen. On Saturday, September 4th, 2021, my mom and I went to the Hollywood Pantages Theater to see Hamilton after the show closed down for a year.

The Pantages had specific guidelines that audience-goers, such as myself, had to follow in order to watch the performance. One of these guidelines was that audience members had to wear masks and show vaccine cards as proof of vaccination. I was glad that the theater wanted to keep everyone, including my mom and I, safe from the COVID-19 virus. It may be uncomfortable to wear a mask for 3 hours, but it’s better than having long-term symptoms of the virus.

The play was great and had only a few technical and professional issues. Under the direction of Thomas Kail, there was a powerhouse of performances. Alexander Hamilton, played by Jamael Westman, was exceptional. He played his part with a few comedic twists. Aaron Burr, played by Nicholas Christopher, showed the anger and betrayal of his character fantastically. Angelica Schuyler played by Sabrina Sloan brought down the house with her power vocals.

Several other main characters played by Rubén Carbajal (John Laurens/Philip Hamilton), Joanna Jones (Eliza Schuyler-Hamilton), Taylor Jones (Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds), Carven Lissaint (George Washington), Simon Longnight (Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson), Wallace Smith (Hercules Mulligan/James Madison), and Rory O’Malley (King George III) were all magnificent in their roles. The ensemble progressed the story with their wonderful dancing and background characters. I was very impressed by the show. Theater-goers can continue to see it until January 2, 2022.
